This is a skilful recipe, similar to the Bermuda Cod Fish Cake recipe, for added flavour add 1/2 Tbs of crushed fresh thyme or stale Thyme, season to gustation using black pepper, seasoning salt & garlic powder. Arctic the mixture in the refrigerator for an hr, this will blend the flavors and solidify mixture to avoid crumbling when frying. Before frying coat in seasoned flour mixture (white flour, seasoning salt, black pepper and paprika, this will ensure a nice crispy coating and no aging. For perfect even cakes, try using an ice-cream scoop to form balls and shape with easily.

When we Bajans (Barbadians) brand codfish cakes, we, as well, add together either potatoes or cooked calabasa/pumpkin to keep the cakes from becoming too tough. Likewise usually utilise salt cod -- which is freshened by either soaking it overnight (irresolute water several times) or boiling and then rinsing and flaking the fish iii - iv times. (I've recently taken to but purchasing frozen cod filets which I boil up once so flake for use in the recipe!) Nosotros add more herbs and spices (thyme, oregano, garlic powder, curry pulverization, paprika) and hot peppers (diced habañeros) or sauce (Louisiana-fashion) to sense of taste. Flour, baking powder, and an egg are likewise added, forth with plenty water to make a thick batter, which is dropped into hot oil and fried. (I adopt to use a deep fat fryer then that the cakes have a crisp outer seal even so remain tender inside.)

This is a great recipe, only make it with whitefish or turbot or something. When you purchase cod, it's from the Spanish and Portugese trollers that are destroying Newfoundland fisheries.

4 stars due to changes required. I boiled the potato and cod with 2 garlic cloves and half an onion. Then mashed it all together, added thyme, cerise pepper flakes and some bread crumbs. Finally covered each cake in staff of life crumbs, cooled in the fridge for one hour (which allows them to harden and volition not interruption apart during cooking). Then seared in a hot pan on both sides before finishing in the oven.

This was a very skilful recipe! I did make some changes though. Information technology seemed a bit plain, so I added about three T. of scarlet bong pepper, some table salt and pepper and Everglades seasoning. The mixture was too sticky, so I mixed in about 5 oz. of italian bread crumbs. My family unit loved them and I plan on making them again.

My married man and I grew up with Cod Fish Cakes as the ultimate comfort food. These were evn better than the ones we remembered!!! Lent isn't a cede with these babies on your table! But a warning tho - grating the onion will lead to red optics, but the result is definitely worth information technology!!!!

WE LOVED IT, I ADDED OLD BAY AND PEPPER TO THE WATER AND TESTED IT BREADED AND FRIED VERSUS Baked Non WORTH THE EXTRA CALORIES, WILL Bake HERE ON IN THANKS FOR SUCH AN Easy, DELICIOUS MEAL

Mmm... these fish cakes really made my nighttime. I made the recipe for one/two pound of fish, and information technology turned out wicked delicious. I STRONGLY agree with anyone who has said that 2 cups of oil is too much. Absolutly. For the one-half recipe, I probably used 1/iii of a cup, and it was fine, and probably spared me a heart attack or 2. I had a little problem when I mixed it all together- it was too moisture and not business firm enough to mold. However, information technology was hands solved by adding some fine breadcrumbs. After that, popping them into footling patty form was non an issue. The texture was cracking, though next fourth dimension I think I'll go for something a little chunkier. They ended up crispy and yummmmy! (Yes, iv thousand'south!) Effort it out tonight!
03/02/2008
I didn't chill these before frying them but when I make them once more - I will. They are quick and piece of cake and the kids enjoyed them.
06/09/2010
This was a skillful starting point merely it actually needed some assist in the flavor department. Not enough seasonings and way too much potato. One or even none would be fine and I remember a better replacement would be some Panko bread crumbs. I added chopped celery, lemon zest, lemon thyme, black pepper, a bit of Former Bay and coated with breadstuff crumbs earlier frying. Cheers!

new to the site.....I fish out of Montauk and had a nice catch of cod fish then I tried this and man I am hooked..added just a little of my own spice and information technology is was nifty...im a 50 twelvemonth sometime guy who just is falling in beloved westward/ cooking.... kids and wife are happy too and love my cod fish cakes
07/11/2006
I made a few revisions to this recipe and it turned out great! I used orange roughy filets instead of cod, and red potatoes. I added a dash of kosher salt, pepper and dill to the mix. And then coated the patties with staff of life crumbs and cooked them for well-nigh x min (med heat) on my countertop grill. I think they nonetheless demand a little extra something for more season (hmmm, maybe roasted blood-red pepper sauce?), simply all in all it was a fantastic meal I volition definitely brand again. And they were just as good the next mean solar day, heated in the toaster oven!
02/23/2007
2 cups of oil is WAY likewise much-- oily, soggy, greasy, and definitely not healthy.
06/22/2011
Love fish cakes..but a little tip is to put them in the fridge for a couple hours..earlier frying them..they will stay together better...good luck!
03/eleven/2011
These came out not bad! I subbed chives for the parsley, equally that's all I had on paw, and added salt & pepper. They could probably utilize a bit more than flavor, possibly some garlic, but I served with a roasted carmine pepper and garlic mayo (with a little horseradish), and then the spicy dipping sauce complimented the fish cakes perfectly! I particularly like this recipe because it calls for no breadstuff crumbs or other filler - I thought the mixture was too moist, but after letting it sit for a couple minutes while I heated upward the pan, it held together perfectly while notwithstanding retaining its moisture, and best of all, they are actually quite easy to brand. Volition definitely makes these once again!
03/06/2007
I did modify I added breadcrumbs to the mixture and eggbeaters mixed information technology and fabricated the patties and placed patties in refrigerator for a few hours than I sprayed my Geo foreman grill cooked nearly 4minutes they were very good and no oil
06/12/2002
This was excellent!! I had read others suggestions and added salt, pepper and garlic on my ain. Also, considering I didn't have fresh parsley I used dried. Commonly I observe it doesn't matter but I think fresh would have given this a much better flavor. This was even expert reheated in the oven the side by side day!
12/17/2007
I made these tonight for dinner. I used just nether a pound of cod, 2 large baking potatoes (for their starch in hopes of it holding them together), a half teaspoon of Onetime Bay, and I doubled the onion and parsley. I found the mixture to be pretty strong (a spoon stood up hands in the mixture) so I added only the egg yolk, and threw away the white. My outset batch nevertheless fell apart a flake in the pan, and I was very careful- even using two spatulas. So, I dredged my second batch in flour before frying- I didn't put them in an egg wash or annihilation, just flour, and they held together PERFECTLY. We all enjoyed them- even my two year onetime was gobbling them upwardly. I thought they were tasty, but I would up the seasoning a flake more next time. If the kids weren't eating them, I'd add some heat. Really, the seasonings tin can exist adjusted to whatever your liking. These were very like shooting fish in a barrel, and the recipe made a dozen, which was just enough for u.s.. Will make again.
02/23/2007
I oasis't tried this recipe yet, but it sounds similar to one my family has used for generations. Our merely difference is that nosotros employ table salt cod which has been poached twice (to remove most of the salt). Using this may up the "flavor gene" of the fish cakes. You lot might too desire to increase the amount of potatoes and onion used -- to stretch out the meal. Finally, frying them in butter, while packing on the calories, also adds a delicious flavour.
02/23/2007
I followed nesmar'due south communication and these fish cakes were absolutely delicious! Crispy on the outside, moist on the within~My unabridged family loved them! They make a smashing repast on Friday's during Lent....thanks!
06/xix/2000
I liked this recipe. however, the "printable" version left out the amount of potatoes. I cooked the potatoes separately, and added the cod with a little onion in the same water. I added some sauteed chopped onions and stale parsley to potatoe mixture. Afterwards calculation the flaked cod, I put the patties in the fridge and after 1/2 hour coated them with Japanese bread crumbs called Panko. They were very, very skillful! Thanks
11/06/2010
I fabricated these this night to rave reviews! The possibilities of this yummy fish cake are endless! I would attempt garlic, fresh basil, lime juice, soy sauce, other kinds of fish or - abalone ... Thanks for the simple, steadfast recipe!
09/14/2003
Very succulent fish cakes. If you follow the original recipe to the letter, I recollect you volition notice the flavor a bit bland. When I fabricated it the showtime time, I added a generous amount of breadstuff crumbs (which provide amend consistency), garlic salt & garlic powder. I also add 2 tsp of coriander powder and a 1/2 tsp of cumin. Yum!
02/fifteen/2007
great recipe just add your own spices
03/05/2011
I added a little garlic powder, salt, pepper and dill weed. I too added light-green onion & Italian bread crumbs like one of the other reviewers did. It was very practiced.
05/31/2007
I dredge my cakes in flour or panko earlier frying (if gives the exterior a crunchy texture and seems to hold the cakes together) These are unproblematic to brand and are then good. They remind me of the flavors of littoral New England where I grew up and enjoyed these as a child Thanks for this recipe!
05/19/2010
I only had sweet potatoes so I had to substitute, and had to add together some bread crumbs to form practiced patties. I used parsley, salt, pepper, paprika and some pre-mixed "southwest chipotle" spices to season the mixture. I served this with a spicy sauce similar to a "bloomin' onion" sauce. These tasted wonderful, my husband ate three of them! I'll definitely add this to my recipe box. Thank you!
08/03/2011
YUMMY! Like some others I adjusted a bit, added 1/2 chopped green and yellowish peppers, some seafood seasoning, substituted cilantro for the parsley and added garlic. Also had to add together 2 pieces of staff of life to it due to texture also wet and then rolled my cakes in panko bread crumbs earlier pan searing them. Side by side TIME I'm going to try instant mashed potato flakes to speed things up & spray the panko crumb coating with nonstick spray and but broil them. But I WILL Be making this again! And plan to attempt information technology out with Salmon too!
06/07/2012
This was a slap-up recipe, my married man grew up in Nova Scotia and said his mom always made cod fish cakes. When he asked me if I could try to make them I was and so thankful to find this recipe. I made information technology exactly as written, but added two tsp of Old Bay Seasoning. I was not sure what type of potatoes to use, as I wanted a blazon that would make into a patty and stick together well, and so I chose Yellow fleshed potatoes ( yukon gold ) and they were perfect ! Afterward the commencement bite my married man said that it took him back a few years every bit they were very like to his mothers.
01/03/2012
I used this as my base of operations recipe but changed things along the style. I used tilapia every bit information technology's what I had at home and instead of boiling it with the potatoes, I baked the filets with lime common salt, pepper and chili flakes to requite it more flavor. I added parsley to the mash and more than seasoning and dipped them in breadcrumbs before frying them. They stayed whole and were easy to make into patties. I'grand not a fan of fish but I institute them actually quite good. As I said, first-class base of operations recipe to play around with.
02/07/2001
Needs more seasoning. Next fourth dimension volition attempt more cod, less potatoes, and quondam bay seasoning.
08/27/2009
I tin't believe I've never reviewed these fish cakes before. I've been making this recipe for a long time now and they're awesome! I too add together a little bit of bread crumbs (I don't measure...just what gives it a nice consistency). I likewise add some crab seasoning and coat with flour. They are one of my kids' favorites and a staple in our house! Thank you for sharing.
05/04/2007
The amount of oil used in this recipe has been corrected to read 3 tablespoons.
02/02/2007
a good easy recipe made some slap-up cakes that went downward well with all the family
09/05/2013
Good base for a great block....but lots of adjustments needed. I used Tilapia but likely just near whatsoever fish would work. Use what y'all like! When mashing your mixture, wait to add together the egg. So y'all tin Gustatory modality and add any you like to your preference: salt & pepper, other seasonings (garlic salt or pulverization), grated celery or other veggies like bell peppers, fresh or stale herbs (I added chives), lemon juice or lemon zest, etc. (I WISH I would have added lemon zest) Trust your instincts. If your mixture is mushy or difficult to shape, add bread crumbs, cubed toast, panko crumbs, etc. (I used store bought bread crumbs) When you similar what you taste... add the egg, shape the patties and refrigerate for an hour, or freeze for 20 minutes. This REALLY helps the patties stay together during the cooking procedure. Apply a prissy, hot pan with heated oil to get crispy cakes. Oh, I also dredged in flour before frying. Promise the suggestions help! Teresa

Lydia, give thanks y'all for this recipe. I had never tried fish cakes before - of anykind and found these wonderful! My fiance loved them and me, not a fish lover, really enjoyed them! I used fresh parsley and encourage others to do the same. I also added lemon pepper likewise as some salt and black pepper to taste. They came together fast and cooked just every bit quick - nifty for the blitz later work! Thanks over again, Lydia!
02/21/2007
I couldn't get them to stick together. But they tasted wonderful.
02/26/2007
My hubby says these are "to dice for"! I did not accept any potatoes but had leftover mashed potatoes. I did have to add more than bread crumbs and I added coriander and cumin as also suggested. And leftover fish cakes in a hamburger bun with lettuce, love apple and cheese and a thin slice of reddish onion...YUM!!
08/07/2013
Since we like a lot of flavor, I used this as a base recipe and doctored information technology up a bit. Also, I similar to utilise up what's on hand. Here'southward what I did and they were delicious! Thanks for the thought. Used red potatoes, added minced red bell pepper, green onion (instead of the minced onion), chopped baby spinach, and of grade salt and pepper. I coated the cakes in a mixture on panko and parm cheese and let them sit in the refrigerator to set up for about 30 minutes. I then sautéed them in virtually 2 tbsp evoo in a cast iron skillet on the grill. Way healthier than the amount of oil called for and they were quite crunchy. For a dipping sauce, I whisked sour cream, horseradish, Dijon mustard, and capers. Promise you enjoy them as much equally we did..
02/18/2011
I was looking for a recipe to utilize leftover fish....this was the closest I could observe. I made this for lunch, and had a couple leftover, which became breakfast. I loved this! Tin't wait to accept fish again and then I can have my fish cakes. I did add together Former Bay and used chopped green onions instead of grated onion.
06/fifteen/2011
I have never been a big fan of fish cakes. I swallow them considering the homo loves them. The but change I fabricated was to add some garlic, extra onion and saute instead of fry, and a serve with lemon wedges. He likes them, and that makes me happy!
09/ten/2007
These are wonderful. However, I did make a few small changes. Since I started with common salt cod, I soaked it overnight, changed the water, simmered the cod, changed the h2o and simmered again to remove most of the common salt. I coarsely mashed some leftover boiled potatoes and added the drained, flaked and deboned cod. I omitted the butter and added a little fresh-snipped dill. Then I coated the cod cakes with a little seasoned flour to make them really crispy on the outside. My husband grew up in Nova Scotia, and he had to admit that these cod cakes were simply like the ones he remembers eating when he was a kid - except for the dill, which he said was a actually nice addition. Thank you for the posting.
07/23/2002
Excellent recipe. I added Old Bay. My husband took leftovers for lunch and commented when he returned home on how smashing the fish cakes were a day later. Thanks for the recipe!
ten/09/2000
This recipe was excellent. My husband grew up having cod fish cakes and he absolutely loved these. I found that the cakes vicious apart when you tried to flip them during frying. Next time I volition add together some more liquid (maybe milk) to the mix so they fall apart while frying. But in any case, these were delicious!!!
04/10/2011
Non very expert at all. No flavor and mushy and fall apart.
05/25/2010
Really proficient. Even my 4 yr sometime liked them. I idea information technology could apply more fish though and next time I make it I will add more. I also added Quondam Bay seasoning to my mix and it added simply the touch of flavor it needed. Will brand over again!
01/27/2002
Definitely needs a little seasoning added. I used seasoning salt due west/pepper and garlic. I used scallions and onions and didn't use the parsley (crusade I didn't accept any) and they were really good.
02/12/2012
this recipe is very similar to my mothers, we use dried salt cod, shredded and soaked and so chopped, lots of onions, with table salt pork and a little bacon.sauteed and lots of boiled spuds..mixed ,formed into patties, dredged in egg and and so flour and fried in butter with olive oil (just to cut the butter down ,but not the flavour ) soooo good!! dont use breadstuff crumbs ..information technology ruins the season!
08/12/2014
This was yummy. I followed the communication of several other reviewers (added additional spice, flour) to start. used sweet potato, because I had those on hand. The mix was a bit glutinous. Used a light coating of flour which made it meliorate to course into cakes. The family liked it overall, hubby and I both thought information technology could apply a sauce, a little spicy kick.... Definitely thought refrigerating may assist as others suggested. I saved some to fry up for dinner tomorrow in the fridge. Overall smashing recipie, will effort again! Thanks!
01/28/2015
Information technology has been a while since I have fabricated this recipe, only I have made it a few times and its a keeper. I like my food spicy so I add red pepper flakes, and that is the only changes that I make in this simple recipe.
x/31/2010
SOOO easy to make. I added a lot of spices when I was boiling and when frying. Definitely put in the refrigerator for a bit before frying or else they will probably fall autonomously. I institute three-v minutes a side for a pretty decent sized patty worked well.
04/08/2007
I prepared the potatoes and fish the day before. After forming the patties I dipped them in a mixture of equal parts breads crumbs and flour (as I constitute the patties to be sticky equally I was forming them). Also, I baked the patties in the oven (425F) approx 12-xv minutes per side spreading a thin layer of vegetable oil on the bottom of the baking sheet (p.s. I have a gas oven,so temp may have to be adjusted). The fish cakes turned out expert. This was the first time I have tried baking the patties instead of frying, as I wanted to cutting back on the amount of oil used.
04/04/2010
I think an egg might be helpful in binding this recipe. I utilize that in my salmon cakes and toss them in crushed saltine cracker crumbs. Just a thought
06/15/2009
this recipe was good. very good, but it needed some minor changes. when I made this, it was way also soft and gummy to class into patties, so I added some staff of life crumbs. A few modest changes that were more than on a personal footing were substituting cilantro for parsley, adding common salt and ground cherry pepper, and using less oil to fry in. I likewise make a spicy chipotle mayo sauce that went swell with these cakes, gave them merely the right amount of kicking!
12/08/2004
honestly I only used this recipe as a guide for my own creation. I used walleye, cheddar cheese, green onion, seasoned salt and pepper, ane whole egg, 1 white. Fried in canola oil. Good ,but not something I'd make real often.
10/28/2008
Found this recipe while searching for a way to use all the fish in my freezer from my fiances angling trips. I'm not a huge fan of fish, only these were really adept! I did add together staff of life crumbs to the mixture and as well coated each cake with them, they were much too soft without. I added some seasonings - garlic pulverisation, seasoned salt, cajun - only would add more than side by side time to give it a fiddling more kicking. I had the deep fryer out for onion rings, and then used it to melt these - lots of fatty, I know, merely it worked really well. Served them with some lemon-dill sauce and my fiance was already planning on when we should have them again before he had finished eating!
ten/xxx/2011
love them!
09/08/2014
So I had to make some changes bc I didn't have some ingredients. Just it came out great anyway! (Don't laugh) I I used instant potatoes and left out the onion. I added Panko breadcrumbs (maybe ane/four loving cup) along with paprika, garlic, table salt, and pepper. Fried using veg oil. Very tasty! It was my first endeavour at whatsoever kind of fish patty and I'm happy with how it turned out!
11/20/2005
These weren't a hit. Fifty-fifty though I added onion powder, black pepper and Old Bay, they were withal pretty bland. They were also quite wet and sloppy - I think the egg I used was besides large, and I should have added some bread crumbs. Thanks, anyway.
12/27/2009
Not bad Recipe! I use it oft with leftover fish from other meals.
03/fourteen/2009
Just like the ones in New England! Make the fish cakes small (larger ones fall apart) and add salt.
05/31/2000
This was a very simple recipe. My children actually like them. Make sure you add together your own seasonings for your taste
11/18/2010
this precipe is a good bones recipe, but i find it was as well wet, so i added some bread crumbs. i detect it tastes like hashbrowns and scrambled eggs, then i eat information technology with ketchup. i notice even when i add my own spices it'south still lacking on season, just my family likes information technology and so i make information technology every so ofttimes.
04/30/2010
two big potatoes? Way too much. The results were fishy hash browns.
06/19/2007
That much oil really isn't necessary, and if they have a little chip of filler, the cakes volition fall apart quite easily. Otherwise, this is a very tasty dish! Growing upwardly on Canada's East Coast they were almost a staple nutrient in fact. I've tasted better earlier, but they weren't too bad.
07/04/2007
This was pretty good! I left the fish and potatoes in a small die and stirred together rather than mashing. I added almost 1/4 cup of matzo meal to help it stick together. They did fall apart slightly, simply still looked pretty proficient and tasted groovy! Thanks!
01/24/2001
These were surprisingly practiced ... easy as well! My fish-antisocial kids loved them, and went back for several helpings.
08/06/2008
Fifty-fifty with fish that had been frozen a scrap also long, these came out succulent. I did add some extra seasoning and dredge them before frying.
02/08/2003
Did I miss something? These were very bland. We used "Inner Beauty" hot sauce on them and that fabricated them much tastier.
08/23/2010
I actually fabricated these with sole (it was what I had on paw). The kickoff couple did not hold together very well, only they got meliorate when I made the next couple a little bigger. When I make hem adjacent time I might add a little pepper and perhaps dill instead of the parsley. Otherwise my husband and I actually enjoyed our special dinner =)
07/26/2014
Needs some salt or garlic common salt, maybe some Onetime Bay and more than fish, less potato. Equally written it but tasted similar the potatoes. Kind of blah.
12/eleven/2008
These were fantastic. What a great way to employ up leftover mashed potatoes. I did dredge them in flour before frying, and next fourth dimension I will coat them in breadcrumbs beginning, every bit I'm certain this will brand them even better!
03/xv/2015
First attempt at these. Tried refrigerating them equally 1 reviewer suggested and ended up adding panko crumbs to help bind them together to exist able to make patties. (Panko crumbs merely breadcrumbs available) Had a gloppy mess which had my wife come up to the rescue. Had a few decent patties, and a bunch of cod-potato crumbs which I still found delicious. Volition arrive again, but I need to rethink the process, to be able to make proper patties.
02/25/2014
Great tasting; I followed NESMAR's advice in his/her review, which I believe was extremely helpful in improving this smashing recipe (especially the tip to coat in seasoned flour mixture before frying (white flour, seasoning table salt, black pepper and paprika); good communication.
01/17/2015
Made this Recipe today and Wife and I loved it , Nosotros did staff of life information technology with Panko before frying, A nice touch. Looks similar this will be a weekly affair here in our household;
10/14/2014
I actually similar to add savoury to the mixture for some added flavor.
12/10/2008
We LOVE these fish cakes! We volition never consume "store bought" again. I follow the recipe exactly. I have used different kinds of fish, depending what is on auction. We have pan fried and deep fried them. Every way we take made them, they are delicious. Thank you for the GREAT recipe!
03/27/2010
Followed the recipe exactly except used green onions instead of white and added table salt & pepper. Although I refrigerated for one hour, they did not agree together well when frying. For the last few, I added some breadcrumbs which did the trick. These tasted great, and would definitely make once again with revisions.
03/12/2014
Very tasty! Mayhap the best recipe I've tried on this site. And then simple. This will exist a regular dish in my house.
10/10/2009
These cakes turned out fantastic! I took several reviewer'south advice and so made some modifications. I boiled 1/ii onion and a clove of garlic with the potatoes. I added thyme, red pepper powder, oregano, and curry pulverisation. I also refrigerated the mix and coated in seasoned flour earlier cooking them in 1/4 cup canola oil. Thank you for the tips!
03/06/2010
I take to hold with some of the other reviewer that this was way too soft and sticky to form into patties. I fifty-fifty added i/iv cup of staff of life crumbs. I was so disappointed because I have been looking for a good cod fish cake for years. I would non use it as written again. I ordinarily gear up recipes as written merely had to do something as they would not concur together and I didn't want to waste material the ingredients. They were tasty so I take a two merely it is not something I would brand once again as written.
02/11/2011
I used leftover broiled irish potato in this recipe, so I mashed that up in a bowl, added the cod which I had fried in butter, and then fried onions and a garlic clove, and so added some green onion to that at the end to wilt it. Didn't have whatever parsley then added thyme. Added all that to my potato/fish mixture and mashed. Scooped information technology out into 1/iii loving cup portions (which made 8 cakes), rolled in masa corn flour, then fried in olive oil. It was practiced, my son who claims he does not similar cod went back for a 2d fish cake. I used one small and ane large potato as I only had a 400g parcel of cod (which is 54g less than a pound), didn't demand the egg to hold it together.
02/14/2011
fantabulous
05/04/2010
These were ok, but not very flavorful. I followed others suggestions and added some thyme, also cooled them in the fridge for over an hour. Then coated in whole wheat flour (nosotros don't use white) with various Italian style seasonings. I think next fourth dimension I will effort adding more onion, some crushed garlic, and cooking in a different oil (used olive this time). I may try blistering them too. My toddler did enjoy them dipped in ketchup.
01/sixteen/2007
This was a groovy way to cook fish! Dissimilar, succulent, and the leftovers were even better the side by side day.
11/02/2009
Sooooooo yummy!! Can't wait to make and accept them over again, One of the all-time fish cake recipies that I've tasted.
02/03/2014
I made this this evening, and while the season was fine, it did need some additional seasoning. The biggest trouble, however, is that information technology was near incommunicable to go along these from falling apart. They crumbled from the offset, and again in flipping them. I'll try something else side by side fourth dimension.
01/27/2010
This was a good base recipe for me. I add together garlid, Thyme, and double the parsley, I omit the egg and butter because they are moist plenty without the egg and I substitute the butter with Just Best for a healthier take.
01/29/2014
Love the recipe, but the taste needs a fiddling... zing. it's piece of cake to brand and is awesome to fill upwardly on. I will definitely exist making it once again!!
04/04/2015
Proficient recipe only a bit banal for my taste. I added some finely chopped onion (along with the grated) too equally some Old Bay (a necessity for Marylanders when it comes to seafood, lol!). I tried frying in a small amount of oil and the cakes were fine. But they were fifty-fifty improve after I lightly coated them with flour before frying. This recipe was made using 1/2 the ingredients - one-half of an egg was ane tablespoon of beaten egg). I'd make this once again.
08/02/2010
A great, easy recipe. I used haddock instead of cod and information technology was delicious! It was a little bland as the recipe suggests so I recomend a side of baked beans and a salad.

I haven't tried this yet, merely when a recipe calls for "two large potatoes" and I call back about the multitude of potatoes sizes, I get annoyed. How about "approximately two pounds" of potatoes" as a measurement or whatever her idea of ii large ones weighs.

This is a good bones recipe for cod cakes. I did utilise less spud and a chip more cod. I also put some Old Bay seasoning in it. So yummy that way. ***I made this a 2d time. I thought I had potatoes in my pantry only was wrong!! The merely thing I had was 1 of those mashed potato mixes with cheese added. So I used that. It actually turned out pretty well. I added the Old Bay Seasoning mix to information technology over again. Information technology was yummy.***

The ingredients really come up together nicely in this simple fish cake dish, but accept you considered using tilapia fish instead of cod? Cod is on the Marine Conservation Gild's listing of "fish to avoid" because information technology is widely over-fished and inefficiently managed. Tilapia, withal, is on the club's "fish to consume" list and does not crave wild fish to be defenseless to feed information technology. The gild suggests that tilapia is a more sustainable culling to cod and that its plain flavor allows it to hands blot other flavors from a variety of herbs and spices. I tried this recipe with tilapia and information technology was just as tasty! Perhaps you could alter the recipe or at to the lowest degree note the option of using tilapia instead of cod, in lodge to promote more sustainable choices.

What a great recipe. I've made fish cakes before, but never one that called for potatos. I had leftover potatos from the night before and thought what a dandy manner to apply them up. Instead of cod, I used canned tuna. It came together actually nice and browned well. I used but a 2-3 Tbsp of oil though. You tin add whatsoever spices or herbs y'all desire. I liked information technology the way it was only, I recall I will try dill adjacent time.

Shame on me, I should've read the reviews before I tried this recipe! I made it "every bit is" and I had three big problems: waaaay too much oil, the cakes barbarous apart when frying in the pan, and their taste was verrrry bland. I'll try some of the other reviewers' suggestions on how to assist both before I endeavour this i once again.
